The Weimar Republic of Germany: 1919-1933

Following World War I and the abdication of the Kaiser, Germany is in a state of anarchy. There were several revolutionary movements which ultimately ended with the adoption of a Constitution and a Republic based in Weimar. Struggling with war reparations and economic disruptions, the Weimar Republic was still able to achieve a stable and progressive government by the mid 1920’s. But there were emerging serious threats to its survival with the rise of the National Socialists and the Communists. In addition to the political story of Weimar Germany, we will also pursue the the exploration of the cultural legacy of the Weimar Republic.
